Message	wire on the wiring harness-side, but on the transmission-side you have a solid white wire and black with white stripe wire. Can you verify this? Maybe clean up the wires? Also, exactly what year is this 5-speed manual transmission? Did it come from a turbo car or N.A? Because I'm having trouble finding the wiring in my 1990 factory service manual. Your Z is a 1990 N.A. manual transmission car, correct? The part in the transmission in your picture is referred to as a Speedometer Pinion according to my 1990 factory service manual diagram for manual transmission. It seems like to me that the solid white wire would go with the solid white wire but I know that is not 100% reliable.
